This is the latest report from the VA on veteran suicide. We must do better. Congress needs to make this a priority and change policies. They are not doing enough. How about some of these common sense ideas:1) Veterans who have deployed to active combat zones, get healthcare for free forever. Their spouses and children. No matter what the disease. No more pre certifications.2) Give veterans a diamond medical card. Go see any doctor they want. Just present the card. VA Pays it. Audit the doctors if fraud is found. Leave the veteran alone.3) Allow homeless veterans to stay on military bases. They can be around other veterans and seek the help they need. Let them go to any base they want. Contract with bus companies to provide free transportation. Can you imagine how much we could save if we got rid of the overhead to process claims on our veterans? Please share!According to the most recent annual report released by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the unadjusted suicide rate for Veterans increased 45%, from 23.3 per 100,000 in 2001 to 33.9 per 100,000 in 2021. Among non-Veteran U.S. adults, the suicide rate increased about 33%, from 12.6 per 100,000 in 2001 to 16.7 per 100,000 in 2021 (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 2023). Some Veteran groups are at increased risk of suicide. Between 2020 and 2021, the age-adjusted suicide rate among female Veterans increased 24.1%. Male rates increased 6.3% in the same period (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 2023). Among recent users of Veteran’s Health Administration (VHA) health care services experiencing homelessness, the suicide rate increased 38.2% to 112.9 per 100,000 in 2021. AI/AN Veterans have the highest rate of suicide based on race and ethnicity (46.3 per 100,000) and AI/AN Veterans also saw the sharpest increase between 2020 and 2021 (51.8%) (VA, 2023). • Certain civilian occupational groups. Men in construction and extraction (65.6/100,000) and women in installation, maintenance, and repair (26.6/100,000) had the highest suicide rates by major occupational group (Sussell et al., 2023).##PTSD #PTS #IronWill #DropTheD #MilitaryLife #TBI #SuicidalAwareness #MST #TunnelToTowers #PawsitiveforHeroes #servicedogs #MentalHealthMatters #Healing #Trust #Veterans #RememberVetsDaily #988 #Vet #Veteran Congressman Nick Langworthy Veterans Stress Solution Congressman Morgan Luttrell @followers Senator Chuck Schumer Senator Rob Ortt ... Received this from an Afghanistan Special Forcers vet that watched Iron Will and is a friend of my brother:Pretty good stuff. Really shines a light on what Vets really go through with PTS. A lot of people think it’s a situation where these people are a ticking time bomb which isn’t true. Also the fact of having a release that’s healthy like exercise or hobbies of some sort. I like how they talk about it not being a “disorder” but just a natural response. It’s crazy because me and you have talked about a lot of the things the documentary talks about verbatim. Got a lot of respect for the men and women stepping forward and sharing their personal experiences, that takes some fortitude. It also brought how sucide is an issue and how 4 people supposed to be a part of the documentary committed sucide before they could be a part of the documentary. Great stuff for veterans and non veterans.Thank you sir for your kind comments, servcie and sacrifice. Glad the movie had a positive impact on you.Share, comment, donate, purchase a free pass for a veteran.
